Use case 02 / 05 · Storage-retrofit potential
Where in Münster is the most retrofit potential?
Because every solar system records whether a battery sits at the same location, we can map the retrofit gap down to the postcode. Here is Münster, each bubble is a postcode, sized by the number of solar systems still without a battery.
Retrofit hotspots in Münster
circle = postcode, size = systems without batteryReal map (OpenStreetMap / CARTO). Amber = the top postcode (48163); circle size = systems without a battery. Positions are the mean coordinates of the dataseted systems in each postcode.

Postcode target list
Ranked by systems without a battery.
What this means for a sales team: in Münster alone, 8,347 of 15,831 solar systems (52.7%) have no battery. The single strongest postcode is 48163 with 1,080 battery-less systems. A field team can plan territory postcode-by-postcode instead of guessing, and the same view exists for all 8,195 German postcodes.
Drill down: every geolocated unit in 46325 Borken
Zoom from the postcode into the individual assets. Each dot is one registered solar system at its exact coordinates, green = has a battery, amber = no battery (the retrofit target). Hover any unit for its MaStR record. Switch to Satellite (top-right of the map) to see the assets sitting on real roofs and fields.

Accuracy & the coordinate rule: 46325 has 5,347 operating solar systems, but only 463 carry exact coordinates in the data, the commercial, agricultural and ground-mount ones shown here. Small rooftop PV (≤30 kWp, private persons) is published to postcode level only, by law (MaStRV). So the map is exact where the dataset allows it, and postcode-aggregated otherwise, the satellite view lets you verify the plotted units really sit on the roofs/fields.

Nationwide
Across Germany, 3,773,193 solar systems (61.6%) run without a battery, and ~1,360 new battery-less systems are added every day. Filter by size, commissioning year and region to isolate the systems most likely to retrofit (e.g. 5–15 kWp rooftop, pre-2020, high self-consumption).
What this enables
- • Postcode-level territory planning for field sales
- • Target list: solar without battery, by size / age / region
- • Prioritise hotspots instead of blanket outreach
- • Size the addressable market for a product or region
